For breweries, wineries, cideries, distilleries, and other beverage producers, pH is one of the most important measurements for understanding and controlling a product. From monitoring mash and fermentation conditions to checking finished beverages, accurate pH measurement helps producers maintain consistency and make informed decisions throughout production.
The challenge is that traditional pH meters are not always designed with the realities of a busy production environment in mind. Glass electrodes are fragile, require careful handling and maintenance, and can become another piece of laboratory equipment that operators have to work around.
The Anton Paar pH2Go Professional Digital pH Meter takes a different approach, combining a durable glass-free sensor with fast measurements and app-based data management in a compact, portable instrument.
At the heart of the pH2Go is its solid-state ISFET, or Ion Sensitive Field Effect Transistor, sensor. Unlike a conventional pH electrode, the measurement sensor does not rely on a fragile glass bulb.
For food and beverage producers, this offers an immediate practical advantage. A glass-free sensor reduces the risk associated with bringing fragile glass electrodes into a production environment while creating a pH meter that is easier to incorporate into routine quality control.
The pH2Go is also IP67-rated and designed for portable use, making it well suited to measurements on the production floor rather than being limited to a dedicated laboratory.
Routine quality control should not require sacrificing a significant amount of product.
The pH2Go requires just 0.5 mL of sample and provides stable readings in approximately two seconds, with an accuracy of ±0.02 pH across its measuring range.
The small sample volume makes it easy to take measurements throughout production, particularly when working with valuable products or small batches where minimizing sample loss matters.
For beverage producers already using Anton Paar's EasyDens Smart Density Meter, the combination creates a compact approach to routine process measurements. Density and pH can both be checked using only a few millilitres of product.
The importance of pH extends well beyond simply knowing whether a beverage is acidic.
In brewing, pH can help producers monitor mash conditions, fermentation, and finished beer consistency. In winemaking and cidermaking, pH is an important consideration for fermentation management, microbial stability, and the overall balance of the finished product.
For RTDs, soft drinks, juices, and other formulated beverages, routine pH measurement can also form an important part of product development and quality control, helping producers verify that batches remain within their established specifications.
The value is not simply having another number to record. Consistent measurement gives producers another tool for identifying process changes before they become finished-product problems.
Accurate pH measurement depends on proper calibration, which is one area where the pH2Go's connected design can be particularly useful.
The pH2Go connects to Anton Paar's Meister App via Bluetooth, providing guided calibration workflows and automatic recording of measurements and calibrations. The system supports up to five-point calibration with predefined DIN, NIST, and JIS buffer groups, as well as custom buffer sets.
For producers building or improving a quality control program, digital record keeping can make it easier to track measurements over time without relying entirely on handwritten logs or manual data entry.
In our earlier article, Precision and Consistency: The Power of EasyDens and SmartRef, we looked at how compact instruments allow beverage producers to bring sophisticated density and refractive index measurements into a more accessible format.
The pH2Go expands that same approach to one of the most fundamental measurements in beverage production.
Used alongside EasyDens, the pH2Go gives breweries, wineries, cideries, distilleries, and other beverage manufacturers a portable toolkit for measuring two critical process parameters: density and pH.
For small and growing producers in particular, instruments like these can help bridge the gap between basic handheld testing equipment and a full laboratory setup, making accurate and repeatable measurements easier to incorporate into everyday production.
The Anton Paar pH2Go Professional Digital pH Meter is now available from Gorman & Smith Beverage Equipment in Canada.
